A crew of four delivers a 70-foot Hylas sailboat from Miami to Newport, Rhode Island, covering approximately 1,000 miles.0:43 The vessel features a complex hydraulic system controlling the anchor windlass, furling headsails, and winches, which requires a technical stop in Charleston, South Carolina, to address fluid level issues. During the passage, the crew encounters varied conditions, including calm seas and a rough transit off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, where opposing wind and Gulf Stream currents create 25-to-30-knot winds and challenging motion. The boat relies on a generator for all electrical needs, including air conditioning, refrigeration, and an electric oven, as it lacks solar power. Navigation is managed via dual helm stations with chart plotters and an autopilot system that can be controlled from the interior navigation station. The delivery concludes after eight days of sailing, successfully reaching the destination in Newport. Proper maintenance of hydraulic systems is essential for managing large, push-button-operated sailboats during offshore passages.
