A Regina 43, a Swedish-built deck saloon yacht, serves as the platform for an owner’s transition from local UK cruising to Atlantic passage-making.8:43 The owner prioritized a deck saloon layout and a self-tacking jib to facilitate short-handed sailing.6:32 To prepare for blue-water voyages, the owner performed a comprehensive mechanical audit, removing interior panels to map all seacocks, piping, and electrical systems.13:30 For energy management during an Atlantic crossing, the vessel utilizes a layered system of wind, solar, and a Remoran hydro-generator to meet a 350-amp-hour daily demand.15:57 Communication and safety systems include Starlink for daily internet and an Iridium satellite device as a redundant, portable emergency backup.33:46 The owner navigated the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay before wintering in Valencia, Spain, citing crowded anchorages in Greece as a primary reason for shifting plans toward an Atlantic circuit.29:22 The owner emphasizes that ocean passage-making requires a "belt and braces" approach to safety and self-sufficiency, noting that experience reduces the fear of the unknown associated with larger offshore fences.33:57
