Jon Sverre Høiden, founder of the racing team Sons of Hurricane, discusses the development of competitive sailing teams and the creation of the "Sailor Launch" winter seminar series in Oslo.0:06 Originally established three years ago at Tiffany on Frogner, the initiative provides a social and educational forum for sailors during the off-season, recently expanding to Kongen Marina to accommodate over 100 attendees.4:12 Høiden emphasizes that building a winning team requires long-term commitment from members, including shared responsibility for boat maintenance, logistics, and financial planning.20:54 He argues that consistent performance stems from high-frequency practice of fundamental boat handling techniques rather than sporadic, high-effort bursts.28:17 By maintaining a stable, dedicated crew and prioritizing structured preparation over casual social outings during regattas, the team improved its competitive standing from mid-fleet finishes to consistent podium contention.25:55 The practical takeaway is that team success relies on the cumulative effect of small, incremental gains in boat handling and the development of a cohesive, committed group that trains together year-round.
