The Hunter Marine 18 is a fractional sloop with a swing keel and outboard rudder, designed by the Hunter Design Team and built by Hunter Marine from 2011 to the present. It measures 5.6 meters LOA, with a 2.2-meter beam and a 1.4-meter draft, displacing 379 kg. Hunter Marine, founded in 1973, became the second-largest American sailboat manufacturer by focusing on high-volume production of recreational cruising boats. The company adopted the B&R rig, which eliminated the backstay, and incorporated features like stainless steel cockpit arches to enhance interior volume and ease of handling. Despite winning multiple awards, Hunter boats faced criticism for chain plate corrosion and sluggish performance in heavy seas. After a 2012 bankruptcy, Marlow Hunter, LLC acquired the assets, shifting to vacuum-infused construction, though production of larger keelboats eventually ceased.
