Amy and Shane, living aboard their sailboat *Maverick* at Marina Del Rey in Madisonville, Louisiana, prepared for the arrival of Hurricane Francine in September 2024. To secure the vessel, they removed the Bimini, brought in deck cushions and chairs, and adjusted lines to minimize side-to-side movement against the dock. They moved their truck and a friend’s vehicle to a high-ground bridge to avoid anticipated storm surge flooding. During the storm, the marina experienced sustained winds in the 30-knot range with gusts reaching 40 knots, while water levels rose approximately three to four feet above normal. The boat remained secure throughout the event, experiencing minimal movement compared to typical boat wakes. Post-storm, the crew inspected the dock and surrounding area, noting significant flooding in the parking lot and debris accumulation around the rudder, though the vessel sustained no structural damage. The local restaurant, Reels, remained open during the storm to provide food for residents and emergency responders.
