A professional yacht delivery crew sails a Hylas 56 from Port Louis, Mauritius, to Cape Town, South Africa — roughly 2,300 miles — stopping at Saint Denis, La Réunion, Richards Bay, and Durban before rounding Cape Agulhas into the Atlantic. Departure from Port Louis involves checking out at the marina office, customs clearance, and immigration stamping.0:38 The crew improvises a Q flag at Réunion using a signal flag after misplacing the proper one.2:24 South of Madagascar they hook into a high-pressure system's northeast sector, achieving beam-reaching conditions at 8.5–9 knots under mainsail and genoa.4:44 A spinnaker pole releases from the masthead at night and falls onto the genoa, caught between the shroud and sheet; the crew clips on and lashes it to the side deck without injury.7:00 A deep Southern Ocean low with winds to 50 knots forces a race to reach Durban before it arrives.8:08 The crew uses a preventer from boom-end to forward cleat on the downwind legs and takes noon sun sights with a sextant along the southern African coast.12:28 Heavy shipping traffic off the Cape is attributed to vessels rerouting away from the Red Sea.15:37 The passage confirms that timing a Southern Ocean low is the critical decision on the Mauritius–Cape Town route.
