Riley and Elayna have purchased 64 acres of jungle on Efate, Vanuatu, and begin clearing shrubs to establish sightlines and choose a house site.1:21 The land purchase involved a bank-repossessed lease held by BSP (Bank of South Pacific), requiring a lawyer named Corinne to verify the power of sale, a valuation by Richard, an offer submitted through Letea, consent from the Ministry of Lands, and signatures from the Songariki family as custom owners.8:22 The driveway from the gate to the intended build site runs 700 meters.15:15 A borrowed tractor from a neighbor named Michael handles slashing, while four workers from Tanna clear shrubs with bush knives.14:56 Riley researches tractor brands including Kubota, John Deere, and New Holland for eventual purchase and import from Australia.17:03 Clearing reveals a waterfall view that shifts the planned house position closer to the drop-off, with a glass reading room sited behind it and ocean views on the opposite side.25:30 Employing local workers surfaces a practical complication: Vanuatu's VMPF superannuation system and bank account requirements are difficult to meet for workers without birth certificates, driver's licenses, or formal ID — a structural gap between government paperwork and village life that becomes an early management challenge.27:50
