To maintain lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries at a specific state of charge (SOC) during long-term storage, users can automate solar charge controller output using Node-RED on a Victron Cerbo GX.0:05 This setup prevents batteries from remaining at 100% capacity, which can degrade LiFePO4 chemistry over time.2:58 The system requires a Victron Cerbo GX or Raspberry Pi running the "Large" version of Venus OS, along with Victron solar charge controllers and a battery monitor (SmartShunt, BMV, or compatible BMS) connected via VE.Can.2:01
After installing the Venus OS Large firmware and enabling Node-RED, users import a JSON configuration file to manage the charge cycle.8:40 The automation reads the battery SOC and toggles the solar controllers on or off based on user-defined thresholds, such as 60% and 80%.3:49 The process utilizes a Cerbo GX relay to manually enable or disable the winter storage mode.9:33 Testing the logic involves temporarily disabling the live SOC input node and forcing manual values to verify that the controllers respond correctly.15:36 Proper configuration ensures the system maintains the desired charge range automatically without requiring shore power.
