A Kohler generator on a cruising sailboat fails to start due to a short circuit in the wiring harness.1:31 After initial testing with a multimeter, the owner discovers a positive battery cable has rubbed through its insulation against a mounting bolt beneath the motor.5:17 The cable’s factory routing through the engine pan, where it was exposed to vibration and potential fluid accumulation, caused the fraying.9:30 The owner replaces the damaged wiring, reroutes the cable to a protected location, and successfully restores power to the unit.11:41 Following the repair, the crew prepares for an upcoming Pacific passage by organizing the boat and researching visa requirements and island entry permits.
