While anchored in Harefjord, Greenland, the crew of a cruising sailboat encounters a polar bear that boards their vessel and damages their equipment.5:40 The bear initially approaches the boat, striking a stand-up paddleboard against the windvane, before moving to a 20-meter fishing net deployed nearby.5:31 The animal consumes approximately ten salmon caught in the net and destroys the gear, leaving claw marks on the paddleboard and biting a fender.15:26 To deter the bear, the host fires four warning shots from a 12-gauge shotgun, using both slugs and buckshot, before the animal retreats.15:19 Following the encounter, a passing supply ship in Itok-Otormit provides the crew with 60 liters of diesel fuel after learning of their difficult motor passage against wind and current.19:39 The crew retrieves the damaged net, which sustained multiple tears, and retains a bitten fender as a souvenir.22:47 The incident underscores the necessity of carrying defensive measures in polar regions.
