The owners of a catamaran perform maintenance on their anchor locker and windlass system while anchored near Le Marin, Martinique. The project involves sealing the locker with fiberglass cloth and resin to prevent water ingress, followed by the installation of a new drainage system and a custom-built door.8:38 To ensure redundancy, the crew installs three separate control systems for the windlass: a wired remote, two wireless remotes, and two deck-mounted push buttons.22:27 The owner notes that the previous foot-operated switches failed due to UV degradation of the rubber seals, which allowed water to enter and risked accidental activation of the windlass.22:53 The new setup includes a relay replacement and wiring adjustments to accommodate the multiple control inputs. During the process, the crew tests the windlass functionality and the effectiveness of life jackets by jumping into the water from the dinghy.2:34 The project aims to improve the structural integrity of the locker and provide reliable, multi-point control for anchoring operations.
