A 2012 Lagoon 450 catamaran ran aground on a reef in Vanuatu after the crew lost their entire anchor and chain, which had not been properly fastened to the boat.4:58 The owners, who had limited sailing experience, were rescued by locals using fenders and work boats to pull the vessel off the reef at high tide.8:26 To recover the lost ground tackle in 30 meters of water, the crew of Parlay Revival used the Lagoon 450’s GPS track to mark the estimated drag path.13:33 After initial freediving attempts failed to locate the gear among multiple seabed drag marks, a diver used scuba gear to follow a single track for 10 minutes, eventually finding the anchor.16:11 The team successfully retrieved the chain and anchor by attaching a 30-pound weight and buoy to the gear before hauling it aboard.16:46 The Lagoon 450 also experienced a slipping cone clutch in its sail drive, complicating maneuvering in the shallow, reef-strewn anchorage.13:14
