Adriano Plotzky performs several maintenance tasks on his sailboat, Balanço, while discussing the practical realities of liveaboard life. He installs a voltage-sensitive relay to automatically connect the engine and service battery banks, eliminating the need for manual switching.1:07 After struggling to find a fuse holder, he completes the installation using a fused cable assembly and Sikaflex.5:08 He also addresses a persistent leak at the mast boot, where the mast passes through the deck.15:13 He removes the old rubber seal and replaces it with a custom-fitted PVC cover, emphasizing the need for a flexible, watertight solution that accommodates mast movement under sail.16:09 Between repairs, he manages daily chores, including refilling the freshwater tank at a mooring and performing engine maintenance on his dinghy.10:49 Plotzky reflects on the nature of truth and reality, suggesting that multiple perspectives are necessary to understand complex situations.8:58 He concludes that practical, functional solutions—even those involving "gambiarras" or improvised fixes—often serve as the most effective truths in a marine environment.10:25
