Marine electrical systems require specialized marine-grade components and strict adherence to safety standards to prevent fires and voltage loss. Avoid automotive-grade terminals and bare copper wiring, as these materials corrode rapidly in marine environments.10:34 Use only tinned marine-grade wire, which resists corrosion and maintains integrity over long periods.10:21 Welding cable is unsuitable for permanent boat installations because its jacket can disintegrate when exposed to diesel or oil, creating a significant fire hazard.16:20 When making connections, use adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing to seal lugs and prevent environmental exposure.11:24 Always perform a pull test on every crimp to ensure mechanical security.13:15 If using a ratchet crimper, follow the tool’s tension settings; if using a manual crimper, verify the connection strength manually.22:32 Maintain a dedicated onboard kit containing a variety of terminal types—including ring, fork, and spade connectors—to ensure the correct part is available for every repair.18:54 Adhere to standard color-coding for all wiring to prevent dangerous misidentification of AC and DC circuits.26:47 Proper electrical maintenance requires meticulous attention to detail, as poor connections can cause significant voltage drops or fires under high-load conditions.
