After 35 days of maintenance in Vitória, Espírito Santo, the crew of the sailboat Califa prepares for a passage toward Abrolhos or Caravelas. The refit included installing a new mainsail and receiving a new genoa, though the boat’s generator remains non-functional and will require professional service in a future port. To manage waste during the upcoming voyage, the crew installed an 80-liter airtight container for storing diapers and trash. Maintenance tasks also focused on standardizing fender lines to ensure rapid adjustment during docking maneuvers, replacing worn lines with uniform lengths and quick-release knots. The crew reorganized the vessel’s interior to reduce weight and clutter, shipping excess gear and winter clothing back to Santa Catarina. Provisions were stocked for a two-month duration to support the transition from coastal stays to offshore living. The crew plans to test the new sail configuration during a short local sail before departing for the next destination. Consistent maintenance and standardization of gear are essential for managing the daily workload of a liveaboard vessel.
