Steve and Annette, liveaboards on their Venus 46 SV Cordelia, prepare to leave their boat in Martinique for a return to the UK to deal with family issues.0:29 With less than 12 hours before departure, a visiting friend blocked their toilet, triggering a five-hour cleanup that derailed the final deck-clearing and dinghy-stowing work still underway.6:05 The pre-departure jobs had already been substantial: sealing chronic leaks, stripping all sails and deck gear, addressing a badly leaking porthole, and obtaining a tapeworm tablet and health certificate for their dog the crew's child — a UK entry requirement.0:51 They offloaded seven bags of clothing to charity, cutting four-and-a-half years of accumulated gear.2:54 The journey from Martinique routed through Paris and Amsterdam, with a four-hour flight delay that threatened their connection to the Harwich ferry; they made it.9:07 Back in the UK, they cover the culture shock of returning to cold, grey England after 35°C Caribbean heat, Christmas with family, M25 traffic, and plans for fortnightly content while ashore.11:21 They note that leaving a liveaboard boat unattended demands thorough weatherproofing — leaks tolerated at sea must be fixed before a long absence.0:43
