The owners of the vessel *Calypso* travel to Miami to retrieve a rebuilt Spectra watermaker and evaluate a FLIR night-vision camera system.0:19 The watermaker, which previously suffered from biofouling, requires precise calibration of its freshwater flush cycle to prevent salt water contamination.8:32 A technician demonstrates how to adjust the motor speed during the flush to match the boat's house water pressure, noting that if the pump runs too fast, it creates a vacuum that draws in salt water through the through-hull.7:07 The system must achieve a salinity reading of 1,000 parts per million or lower at the brine discharge line to ensure a successful flush.6:08 Additionally, the crew considers installing a FLIR thermal imaging unit, which uses a processor to identify and highlight objects like logs or people at night, even when the camera is not actively monitored on the chart plotter.3:43 Proper maintenance of pre-filters and flush duration remains essential for long-term reliability.9:05
