Selecting the correct double-braided line for a cruising boat requires balancing material composition, braid count, and intended application. Robeline’s Orion features a 16-plait polyester cover and core, providing a soft, flexible handle suitable for general sheets, traveler control lines, and reefing lines.2:22 For applications requiring higher abrasion resistance, such as lines running through clutches or winches, the 32-plait Cirrus offers a tighter, more durable cover that maintains its shape under load.3:17

When upgrading to high-load halyards, transitioning to lines with Ultra High Modulus Polyethylene (UHMWPE) cores—such as the Globe Pro or the premium Admiral 5000—significantly reduces stretch.6:33 The Globe Pro utilizes a proprietary Robtec core to provide performance comparable to DSM Dyneema SK-78 at a lower price point, making it a cost-effective choice for cruising halyards.8:19 The Admiral 5000 features a DSM SK-78 core with a tighter weave to minimize constructional stretch, serving as a high-performance option for racers or sailors looking to reduce line diameter.11:59 Proper line selection balances budget with the specific requirements for stretch, durability, and handling.
