The crew of SV Delos, a 53-foot sailboat, navigates the Florida coast from St. Augustine to West Palm Beach. Because the vessel’s mast height and draft make the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) bridges and shallow depths impractical, the crew chooses to sail offshore.10:00 They motor-sail past Cape Canaveral with 7 to 15 knots of wind, maintaining a steady pace toward the Lake Worth Inlet.13:37 The crew notes that the offshore route provides a more suitable environment for their deep-draft vessel compared to the restricted ICW.10:11 Upon arrival at West Palm Beach, they navigate the inlet, monitoring heavy small-boat traffic and radar targets before anchoring in Lake Worth.16:19 The stop in St. Augustine serves as a brief excursion to visit the Castillo de San Marcos, a 16th-century Spanish fort constructed from coquina, a soft, shell-based stone that absorbs cannon fire.5:11 The crew plans to continue coastal hops toward Fort Lauderdale to visit family.8:29
