He also adds a 3mm dummy cord at the masthead to secure swage eyes, ensuring they remain below the mast collar during transit and setup. The gaff arm features a quick-disconnect barrel tab, allowing for rapid removal when clearing low bridges. When stepping the mast, all parrel beads must remain on the top side of the mast thwart to avoid interference with the gaff movement. Failure to position these beads correctly requires unrigging the entire assembly to clear the obstruction.
