Axel and his team perform a comprehensive hull restoration on *Vénus*, a 1980 Baltic 50, while hauled out in Rivière-aux-Renards, Quebec.1:14 The project begins with winterizing the engine, water heater, and watermaker using propylene glycol and sodium metabisulfite to protect systems during the harsh Canadian winter.2:27 To access the hull for sanding, the crew constructs a protective tarp frame, which requires frequent maintenance due to heavy snow and high winds.5:30 After removing layers of old paint with chisels and 80-grit sandpaper, the team discovers extensive osmotic blistering.6:21 They remove the rudder by using a winch and leverage to clear the autopilot and steering supports, allowing for better access to the hull.8:51 The process involves marking individual blisters, grinding them down, and allowing the fiberglass to dry thoroughly before applying anti-osmosis treatments and antifouling.13:11 Despite the discovery of more widespread osmosis than initially anticipated, the hull is successfully stripped to the fiberglass.14:53 Thoroughly stripping the gelcoat and allowing the laminate to dry is essential for addressing osmotic hydrolysis before applying new protective coatings.11:16
