Johan and Malin are extending their barn in southern Sweden to accommodate the construction of a new boat. The project involves adding a 2-meter extension to the existing structure to provide enough clearance to work on the hull’s transom once it is turned over.1:47 Johan uses ground anchors to secure the extension’s support posts, initially struggling with dense clay and subsurface rocks before using water to soften the ground and achieve a firm grip.7:51 The frame consists of primed spruce planks and a translucent plastic roof, designed to provide natural light and withstand local wind and snow loads.9:21 Johan constructs wide, lightweight barn doors using 20-millimeter thick timber and 1-meter long hinges.12:39 While the doors currently clear the ground, he notes that spring-loaded wheels may be necessary if the hinges sag under the weight.12:17 The structure successfully remains watertight during the first rainfall.14:35 With the extension complete, the focus returns to gluing scarf joints to produce 54 full-length strips for planking the hull.15:19
