The crew of *Into the Mystic* visits Minnie's in Long Beach to purchase a used 50-foot asymmetrical spinnaker, blocks, shackles, and 400 feet of line for their upcoming trip to Catalina Island. They also acquire a used water maker, which they plan to restore by replacing membranes and filters and troubleshooting a faulty stop button.

The primary focus of the trip is assisting a friend, Rob, with the final mechanical commissioning of their former boat, *El Reposado*. The engine, an Atomic 4, previously suffered from recurring stuck valves caused by water reversion due to an improperly designed exhaust riser. The crew redesigned the exhaust system to clear the waterline and installed new valves, springs, lifters, and an electronic ignition system. After performing a successful sea trial in San Diego Bay, the engine runs reliably through multiple heat cycles. The crew confirms the repair by monitoring the engine temperature and valve performance during a motor cruise around the bay.
