After months of repairs following a mast failure, the crew of the 38-ft sailboat Yabá successfully re-rigs and hoists their full four-sail inventory. To route new lines through the boom, the crew lifts the boom to a near-vertical position, using a temporary messenger line to pull the halyard and outhaul through the internal conduit.4:23 They replace missing deck hardware with temporary shackles and knots, planning to install permanent cleats and belaying pins later.12:04 Once rigged, the boat achieves a balanced helm, allowing the vessel to maintain a straight course without an autopilot by trimming the four sails against each other.20:33 During sea trials in light winds, the boat improves its upwind performance, reaching 55 to 60 degrees off the wind.19:34 The crew notes that the ability to balance the helm through sail trim alone significantly reduces the need for active steering.23:13 Proper sail trim and balanced rigging allow for hands-free sailing even in light, variable conditions.25:35
