Lotta Jonsson and Susan Penty, both from Asker, sailed as the only all-women crew in the ORC Doublehanded World Championship aboard a standard First 31.7.0:24 To qualify under ORC rules, the boat required significant upgrades from its existing Category 2 short-handed setup.1:50 The race started in the Oslofjord in light wind; the crew ran the spinnaker through Drøbakksund and gained places on the fleet.2:35 A tactical decision south of Arendal proved costly: they chose to go south of an incoming low-pressure system and sailed into its windless center while faster boats escaped ahead of it.4:12 After several hours becalmed, wind returned and they carried the spinnaker from Vedrøyene all the way to Struten.4:56 Rounding Persgrunnen in 25 knots of westerly, they sailed a close apparent-wind angle with an oversized headsail they could not trim properly, then bore away and surfed downwind at 12 knots back to the finish.6:00 They held a top-four or five position for much of the race before the low-pressure hole dropped them in the standings.2:07 The crew noted that avoiding the center of a low requires committing to a side earlier than feels necessary.
