James, owner of the 1965 Alberg 30 sloop Triteia, completes a full engine rebuild in Opua, New Zealand, after seawater intrusion damaged the pistons during a passage from American Samoa to Fiji.2:18 J&B Marine performed the $3,282 overhaul, which included boring the block, installing oversized pistons, and replacing all bearings.1:53 To reinstall the engine, James constructs a custom timber gantry over the companionway and uses a chain-fall come-along to lower the unit into the engine bay with assistance from a friend.11:23 After mounting the engine, James relocates the fuel filter for easier access and connects the electrical and cooling systems.20:18 He demonstrates the process for bleeding air from the Yanmar fuel system by cracking the secondary filter bleed screw and the injector nuts while cranking the engine.24:18 The engine successfully restarts after the air is purged from the lines.26:21
