The crew of the 41-ft vessel Supernova installs a 410 Ah Redodo LiFePO4 battery to support a dedicated 12-volt system and power air conditioning for their cat, Coconut.26:14 The boat currently operates on a 24-volt system, relying on a DC-to-DC converter to power 12-volt legacy equipment.28:34 Frequent failures of these converters prompted the transition to a separate 12-volt battery bank, which simplifies the electrical architecture and eliminates reliance on the converter.29:06 The installation includes a 2000-watt inverter, a 300-amp fuse, and a three-way switch to toggle between shore power and the new battery bank.29:22 The crew also plans to integrate a new MPPT solar charge controller and a battery monitor at a later date.23:36 This setup allows the crew to run air conditioning overnight without depleting the main 24-volt house bank or overtaxing the solar charging capacity.30:18 The project aims to improve onboard climate control and electrical reliability while the vessel is docked in Colon, Panama.Watch
