The Raz de Sein and Chenal du Four form a tidal route around Brittany that rewards careful timing but presents no greater difficulty than the Thames Estuary, English Channel, or Solent.0:22 Arriving at the first tidal gate just before the tide turns north gives a fair tide all the way through both passages.0:35 Northbound, the entry point is the Raz de Sein; from there a favorable tide carries a vessel through and up into the Chenal du Four.0:35 The route is well buoyed and well lit throughout.1:09 First-timers should run it in daylight and fair weather; experienced hands can manage it at night without difficulty.1:23 The islands are visible along the way, making it a scenic coastal passage as well as a navigational one.1:09 The core lesson: work the tides correctly at the first gate and the rest of the route follows naturally.
