Steve Goodwin conducts anchor test number 156, comparing the Viking Odin 40 (23 lbs) against a 26-lb Ultra and a 21-lb Viking roll bar anchor across five seabeds: soft mud at Skow Bay, cobblestone, clean sand, and sandy mud.0:00 Testing uses Panope, a 40-horsepower diesel that pulls approximately 680 lbs in reverse.4:41

In soft mud, the Odin and Viking matched at 430 lbs (3:1 scope), 610 lbs (4:1), and 680 lbs (5:1); the Ultra lagged at 310, 430, and 500 lbs respectively.6:21 In the 10-reversal reset test on soft mud, all three anchors scored 9 out of 10 good resets.10:15 On cobblestone, the Odin led at 320 lbs — the best of any small anchor Goodwin has tested — while the Ultra and Viking each held 240 lbs.11:40 On clean sand, the Viking reset perfectly all 10 times with abrupt stops; the Odin and Ultra both struggled with long drags and released under full power on the final check.16:25 On sandy mud, the Odin failed badly in the reset test, drawing comparison to the early Manson Supreme and a failed roll bar anchor — the video breaks off before the Ultra and Viking sandy-mud results are reported.19:30

Goodwin notes the Odin's low and variable tip weight (16–29%), its tendency to topple from upright, and a shank plate bolted near the toe that may impede resetting.1:15 The Viking roll bar anchor, which Goodwin rates the best all-around anchor he has tested, outperformed the Odin in clean sand and sandy mud despite weighing two pounds less.24:56
