Cruisers Academy operates a sailing school using a 42-foot boat, Lentica, to conduct offshore training courses in the Sea of Cortez and coastal sailing instruction in Lake Tahoe. After completing a season in Baja, the crew sailed overnight from the Sea of Cortez to San Carlos, Mexico, to haul the vessel for hurricane season.10:39 Storing the boat in San Carlos costs approximately 70% less than locations within the Baja Peninsula.10:57 The decommissioning process includes cleaning the macerator and head system with vinegar and olive oil, pickling the watermaker membranes with a 15-liter solution, changing engine oil, replacing dual Racor fuel filters, and removing all canvas and sails to reduce windage.13:09 To prevent pest entry during storage, the crew plugs scuppers and vents with steel wool or screens.15:43 The school has trained approximately 500 students, transitioning from Catalina 22s in Tahoe to larger vessels for advanced offshore curriculum.19:45
