The owner of the 1965 Albert 30 sloop *Triteia* struggles with chronic diesel engine failure while navigating toward a river anchorage in Borneo.17:44 After experiencing difficult cold starts and intermittent overheating alarms during a passage from Cape Unpredicted, the engine died unexpectedly four miles from the destination.17:44 The owner previously replaced the fan belt and inspected the water pump impeller, but the engine continues to overheat, likely due to high ambient water temperatures and poor ventilation in the engine bay.19:11 To mitigate the risk of losing propulsion in busy shipping lanes, the owner prepared a dinghy with an outboard motor to potentially tow the vessel.12:52 Upon reaching the river, the crew anchored in 30 feet of mud using a 5:1 scope to account for tidal currents and floating debris islands.21:40 The owner plans to extend an Indonesian visa in person at a local office before seeking a permanent engine solution in Malaysia.
