Jakob Lang, preparing his Henri Wauquiez Amphitrite 43 for an Atlantic crossing from the Canary Islands to Brazil, discovers severe delamination in the hull around all six of his boat's windows.0:06 The original aluminum frames, laminated into the hull, show significant water damage and cracking.2:02 To resolve the issue, Lang removes the old frames by grinding away the surrounding fiberglass, a process that fills the cabin with dust.2:12 He replaces the original windows with modern, clamp-style units that secure from both the inside and outside.7:03 The repair requires rebuilding the hull structure by laminating 21 layers of fiberglass around each opening, applied in blocks of five layers to prevent excessive heat buildup from the polyester resin.16:38 During the project, Lang also installs a galvanic isolator to protect the sail drive and engine block from corrosion while connected to shore power.9:42 After completing the structural repairs, he prepares the vessel for the 2,400-nautical-mile passage.25:51
