Sam and his brother replace the 2.4-liter engine in a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS after the original motor fails during a highway trip. The project begins at a Salt Lake City junkyard, where they source a replacement engine with 41,000 miles for $800. Over the course of 25 hours, the pair removes the original engine by disconnecting the shift cables, electrical harness, and various sensors, eventually lifting the unit out from the top of the engine bay. The process involves significant troubleshooting, including drilling out a broken bolt and clearing diagnostic codes using an OBD-II scanner. Upon reassembly, the car starts successfully, though it initially requires further adjustments to the exhaust and fan system. After 1,000 miles of post-repair driving, the vehicle operates without mechanical issues and shows restored power.
