The crew repairs and secures various deck fittings on their sailboat to prevent water ingress. They address oxidized stanchions by cleaning the metal and applying a non-hardening sealant to the base to ensure a watertight seal.1:33 The project includes refurbishing two locker covers, which are sanded and varnished to restore their condition.6:29 These covers are mounted using three stainless steel hinges, allowing access to the storage area beneath the deck.6:04 Additionally, the crew installs a pipe connection for the water tank that routes directly through the deck.6:48 To test the integrity of the sealant application, they construct a temporary plastic dam around the fittings.6:58 The team prioritizes repairing existing hardware over purchasing replacements, noting that fabricating new components from stock aluminum remains a cost-effective alternative if current parts fail.2:29
