Barry Perrins, sailing his boat in Richards Bay, South Africa, repairs a malfunctioning furling unit by replacing the internal ball bearings and the furling line. He uses shock cord to hold the new bearings in place during reassembly and employs a plastic bottle as a catch-basin to prevent the small parts from falling into the water. After completing the repair, he attempts to depart for Durban but aborts twice due to dangerous wind conditions at the harbor entrance, eventually succeeding on his third attempt during a calm, early-morning window. Upon arriving in Durban, he navigates a night entry into the harbor while avoiding a large tanker that failed to communicate via radio. Once docked at the marina, he assists in securing a neighbor's boat when high winds cause the pontoons to break apart and threaten nearby vessels.
