Garrett and Ruth sail their vessel, Rediviva, from Mazatlan toward Banderas Bay, Mexico, with planned stops in Matanchen and Chacala.0:27 While approaching Matanchen, the crew reefs the main to manage increased apparent wind during a turn from a dead downwind run. They anchor in Matanchen, noting the area is a surfing destination with a seven-kilometer beach but prone to intense insect activity, specifically no-see-ums. Due to concerns about theft in southern mainland Mexico, the crew attempts to secure their dinghy with a cable, though their locks are seized from disuse. After a brief stay, they transit 20 miles to Chacala, a location they find more vibrant and welcoming. Rediviva has logged 3,000 nautical miles since departing the Golden Gate in 2022 and is currently due for a haul-out to address bottom paint erosion and cosmetic wear.
