The Italian maritime regulatory update effective October 21, 2024, introduces significant changes to mandatory safety equipment for recreational vessels.3:18 New requirements include carrying a table of day and night visual signals, a manual or electronic depth sounder capable of measuring at least 20 meters, and a black anchor ball for vessels over 8 meters.4:27 Additionally, sailing vessels must now carry a personal safety harness, which is only effective when used with jackstays or designated deck attachment points.7:05
Life jackets now require an identification tag displaying the vessel’s registration number or Craft Identification Number (CIN), though manufacturers have yet to standardize these tags.9:23 By October 21, 2025, all life jackets must also feature an automatic activation light.11:28 For vessels navigating beyond 12 miles, the regulation now permits the use of a coastal life raft instead of an oceanic one, provided the vessel carries an EPIRB or satellite phone and operates within a Search and Rescue (SAR) zone.13:16 Within 12 miles, a CE-marked tender of at least 2.5 meters may replace the coastal raft if it includes a survival kit and boarding ladder.15:02 Finally, the required quantity of pyrotechnic signals has been reduced, and LED torches may now replace traditional red hand flares.16:45
