Johan and Malin are building a 52-foot deck salon sailboat in a barn in Sweden.0:09 To fabricate the aft deck, Johan uses a 2D scanner to capture the precise dimensions of the transom and bulkhead, bypassing discrepancies in his original 3D cutting files.1:16 He transfers the scan data to a CNC router to cut the deck panel, which measures 2.5 meters wide by 1.5 meters long.3:21 To ensure structural stiffness without increasing core thickness, he laminates the panel and reinforces the underside with two beams salvaged from leftover carbon fiber sandwich material.9:11 The finished 26-kilogram deck includes a slight tilt for drainage and provisions for two flush-mounted hatches.11:43 Future construction plans include tabbing the deck and beams into the hull and beginning work on the 13-square-meter deckhouse roof.14:28 The project also involves a visit to Brantvik to view a locally built sailboat modeled after an 1800s design.15:36
