Armand and Liya, sailing the 40-ft catamaran *Cosmo* with their dog, Pino, managed an infestation of Africanized honeybees while anchored at Isla La Ventana in Bahia de los Angeles, Baja California.0:29 During the summer, high temperatures drive bees to seek water, leading them to board the vessel in search of moisture on galley surfaces and spigots.1:35 The crew mitigated the problem by placing buckets of water with sponges on the nearby beach to lure the bees away from the boat.2:29 They sealed the companionway and other small gaps to prevent entry.2:22 While managing the bees, the couple utilized the island’s clear waters for spearfishing, targeting grouper and hogfish using both a speargun and a hand spear.5:13 They noted that the hand spear allows for faster reloading and safer use near rocks compared to a speargun.10:09 After several days, the crew retrieved their water-filled buckets from the beach at sunset before departing the anchorage.11:43
