Hva denne videoen dekker

Javi attempts to free a seized aluminum staysail halyard sheave embedded in the mast of his boat while wintering in Rodas.0:13 The sheave, constructed of aluminum, is fused to the aluminum mast by years of corrosion around a stainless steel axle.4:45 After multiple ascents to the second spreader, Javi removes the forestay to gain access, attempts to use a strap-style filter wrench, and uses a metal hacksaw to clear debris from the sides of the sheave.2:51 Despite these efforts and attempting to rotate the sheave with a steel rod, the component remains immobile.6:24 Javi concludes that the sheave is not critical because the staysail remains hoisted for long periods.7:22 He resolves the friction issue by replacing the existing 14mm–16mm halyards with 12mm lines for the staysail, genoa, and gennaker.7:32 The thinner lines pass through the existing sheave assembly without binding.8:24 Replacing the oversized halyards also reduces clutter at the winches and improves stopper performance.9:42
