The owner of the 38-ft sailboat Brick House installs two portable 200-watt BougeRV Yuma 200 CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) flexible solar panels to supplement existing power systems.14:33 These thin-film panels contain no glass, allowing them to be rolled for storage during passages or deployed temporarily at anchor without permanent deck mounting.1:15 The crew wires the two panels in series to a 40-amp MPPT charge controller, utilizing circuit breakers to isolate the solar input and battery output.23:38 During testing on a cloudy day, the system produces 12 to 13 amps of power.27:04 The installation avoids drilling holes in the deck and allows the entire solar array to be repurposed for an RV if the vessel is sold.7:08 The owner chooses this portable configuration to avoid walking on the panels while underway and to eliminate the need for a wind generator or engine-driven battery charging.3:24 Flexible, glass-free solar panels provide a durable, high-output power solution that can be easily removed or repositioned to optimize sun exposure.
