Nate and Steph, the creators behind Adventure in a Backpack, transitioned to a mobile lifestyle in an RV and later a van to prioritize travel and physical activity while young.0:31 The decision followed the death of Nate’s father, who passed away from cancer at age 53 shortly after retiring from a career as a firefighter, leaving him unable to fulfill his plans for travel and exploration.3:42 Recognizing that health and longevity are not guaranteed, the couple sold their townhouse and possessions to begin full-time travel, rejecting the traditional path of working until retirement age.7:29 While they continue to save for the future, their current focus centers on maximizing their ability to hike, mountain bike, and rock climb while physically capable.13:01 They emphasize that their choice to live in a vehicle stems from a desire for immediate life fulfillment rather than financial necessity.16:45 The couple also launched a Facebook community called Stokeology to connect with others interested in adventure travel and outdoor activities.19:08
