The Gulf of Morbihan in Brittany, France, features strong tidal currents and shallow oyster-farming zones marked by wooden stakes. Navigating the area requires careful attention to depth, as narrow channels contain two-meter spots that pose risks near low tide. The region hosts numerous mooring fields and sailing schools, with high boat traffic common throughout the gulf. During a four-day stay, the crew visited the island of Ile aux Moines to view megalithic standing stones and a restored 17th-century tidal mill on the island of Arz. Exiting the gulf involves transiting narrow passages where tidal flow can create standing waves and overfalls, even during neap tide cycles. While some sailors attempt to sail through these currents, the crew notes that fighting a two-knot current with light wind often necessitates motoring to maintain control.
