A technician installs a new Raymarine electronics suite, including an Axiom 9 chartplotter and a p70s autopilot control head, to replace a 30-year-old system. The upgrade retains the original autopilot drive motor but replaces the legacy gyroscope with a modern, more sensitive unit for improved performance. The installation includes mounting a new transducer, which requires enlarging the hull opening and aligning the sensor with the boat's centerline. The owner assists with cable routing and radio placement, noting that the new setup integrates GPS data directly into the VHF radio.

Simultaneously, the owner reconstructs the companionway steps and engine access cabinetry using plywood, epoxy resin, and filler to compensate for non-square bulkheads. The new design features removable panels for engine and battery access, with steps spaced at 30-centimeter intervals to ensure safe footing. The project concludes with the electronics fully operational, pending only the final MMSI registration for the AIS and radio. Proper structural alignment and accessible maintenance points remain the primary focus for the interior carpentry.
