Hva denne videoen dekker
The crew of the custom aluminum sailboat Jibsea experienced a total steering failure while sailing off the coast of Iceland. During a 20-to-30-knot downwind run, the helmsman attempted to round up into the wind to jibe.14:34 Excessive pressure on the mainsail kinked a bar in the steering linkage, causing the steering column’s half-moon gear to disengage from the shaft.15:09 This loss of control resulted in the boat repeatedly rounding up and jibing uncontrollably, which also ripped the boom brake line from its clutch.15:34 The crew regained temporary steering by manually straightening the bent linkage bar and realigning the gears while the vessel was under autopilot.18:13 They subsequently doused the mainsail to reduce pressure on the system.17:10 The repair required accessing the steering column schematics to understand the gear disengagement.17:21 The crew also repaired damaged cockpit canvas panels that had torn during the previous passage from Greenland.18:25
