The crew of the catamaran Supernova experienced a simultaneous failure of both engines while sailing in 45-knot gale-force winds.13:13 The starboard engine failed after a jib sheet wrapped around the propeller, while the port engine suffered a fuel delivery blockage that prevented fuel from reaching the motor from the main tank.12:40 To regain propulsion, the crew cut the fouled jib sheet to clear the propeller and bypassed the main fuel system by plumbing jerry cans directly into the port engine’s fuel line.9:20 They sailed upwind for approximately 48 hours, zigzagging to maintain steerage while managing limited fuel reserves from the jerry cans.25:04 The crew successfully navigated to a dock in Petersburg, Alaska, using the single operational engine.25:37 During the transit, a primary camera was lost overboard in heavy seas.21:50 The crew plans to troubleshoot the main fuel tank blockage and repair the fuel delivery system while docked in Petersburg.25:56
