Joshua constructs a 18-foot span roof for a boatshed by fabricating 21 individual trusses.19:35 He cuts 2x8 rafters using a beam saw for peak cuts, a track saw for bird’s mouth seat cuts, and a custom jig for consistency.6:09 To assemble the trusses, he uses plywood gussets salvaged from Douglas fir cabinet doors, securing them with construction screws rated for 2,800 pounds of shear strength and 4-inch galvanized Ardox spikes.13:50 For the lift, he builds a makeshift gin pole crane using a spruce pole, an axle, ratchet straps, and a chain fall hoist powered by a drill-driven rubber wheel.23:10 After sustaining rib and shoulder injuries from a drill kickback, he successfully hoists the first truss into position.25:32 He plans to install the remaining 20 trusses and metal roofing within three weeks to shelter his boat.26:54 The project requires leveling a substrate of crusher dust for the shop floor using a truck-mounted snow plow.10:22
