The owners of the sailboat Jibsea replace their 2.7-meter PVC inflatable dinghy with an 8.5-foot aluminum Go-Do dinghy to improve durability and utility for world cruising.3:38 The previous inflatable, nicknamed "Patches," suffered frequent punctures from rocky shorelines and lacked the capacity for larger outboards or secure storage.9:36 The new aluminum model features a flat floor, a bow locker, and a deep-V hull, which the crew finds more stable and capable of handling choppy conditions than their previous inflatable.3:51 Because the new dinghy’s hull profile does not match the existing deck chocks, the owner modifies the chocks by cutting and grinding them to fit the aluminum hull, creating a flush, secure mounting system on the foredeck.14:57 The aluminum construction provides a weight-to-durability compromise between heavy rigid-bottom boats and fragile inflatables, allowing the crew to manage the dinghy without a davit system.18:38
