Hva denne videoen dekker

Leo Goolden modifies the capstan on the 48-ft gaff cutter *Tally Ho* to resolve persistent chain-jamming issues and water ingress.6:12 The original chain stripper failed because protruding bolts on the gypsy prevented it from seating deep enough to clear the chain.7:04 Working with a machinist, Goolden replaces the original bolts with custom, low-profile fasteners, allowing for a new, deeper-reaching bronze chain stripper.6:59 To address water leaking through the deck-level shaft opening, he installs a 316 stainless steel standpipe that directs grease into the gears and creates a barrier against pooling water.18:05 He also adds a neoprene O-ring seal and modifies the capstan’s top cap with threaded holes for jacking screws, simplifying future removal from the tapered shaft.20:24 These adjustments ensure the chain releases reliably from the gypsy and protect the internal gearbox from corrosion.25:36 Routine maintenance and iterative design improvements are essential for the long-term reliability of complex, restored deck hardware.
