Matt and Kristen renovate the flooring in Kristen’s parents' home, replacing old carpet and linoleum with new floating planks.0:06 The project involves navigating complex room geometries, including trapezoidal angles and non-square walls typical of 1990s construction.4:22 To manage the layout, the team employs a one-quarter stair-step pattern to break up the visual variation in the planks.3:12 They use a multi-tool to undercut door trim, allowing the flooring to slide underneath for a clean finish, and install quarter-round molding to cover the required expansion gaps along the baseboards.18:35 The installation requires multiple adjustments to the hallway sections to ensure proper alignment.8:10 The team also installs a WaterDrop X-Series tankless reverse osmosis filtration system in the kitchen, which provides mineral-rich water and monitors filter life via an intelligent faucet.1:53 The flooring installation serves as a moderate-level DIY project that relies on precise cutting and light tapping to lock seams without damaging the material.5:29
